The new fourth generation of the Highlander celebrated its premiere in the USA a year ago as the 2020 model year and is based on the new TNGA platform in the K variant. This makes the Highlander a close relative of Camry and RAV4, which also use this scaling of the Toyota construction kit. However, the new Highlander clearly towers above the RAV4: At 4.95 meters in length, it plays in the warehouse of a BMW X5; the RAV4 is 35 centimeters shorter.
In accordance with its generous external dimensions, the Highlander offers a generous interior, seven seats are standard, and a trunk with 658 to 1909 liters capacity (factory specification) should also be sufficient for the long journey. The second row of seats can be moved lengthways by 180 millimeters so that the third row can also be reached with some dignity.
Toyota is continuing its SUV offensive: after the new Yaris Cross, which expands the model range to include a mini-SUV below the C-HR and RAV4, the Japanese are also adding to the large SUVs and will be offering the Toyota Highlander as a seven-seater from spring 2021 Model on.
