Honda Accord Transmission Fluid Capacity

Honda recommends changing your new Accord’s transmission fluid after six years or 144 kilometers (60,000 miles) (whichever comes first).

But, because these instructions apply to most Honda and many other vehicles, you may want to keep it handy. Changing your Accord’s transmission fluid is not difficult, and similar to changing your car’s oil, and does not need a Honda Service Specialist.

It’s important to keep an eye on your car’s transmission fluid level and condition and to change it according to your car manufacturer’s specifications. Doing so can avoid potential transmission problems down the road and keep your car running smoothly for years to come.

The type of transmission fluid you should use for your Honda Accord depends on the model year and transmission type. Here are the recommended transmission fluids for different Honda Accord models:

If you have a Honda Accord with a manual transmission, you should use Honda Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF) or equivalent.

Notice

Always use the recommended type of transmission fluid for your Honda Accord to ensure the proper functioning and longevity of your vehicle’s transmission. It’s also good to check your owner’s manual or consult a certified Honda technician to ensure you’re using the correct transmission fluid type for your specific model year and transmission type.

Maintenance

Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) Fluid NOTICE

Do not mix HCF-2 with other transmission fluids. Using a transmission fluid other than HCF-2 may adversely affect the operation and durability of your vehicle’s transmission and damage the transmission. Any damage caused by using a transmission fluid that is not equivalent to HCF-2 is not covered by Honda’s new vehicle limited warranty.

Manual Transmission Fluid NOTICE

If Honda MTF is unavailable, you may use the API-certificated SAE 0 W-20 or 5 W-20 viscosity motor oil as a temporary measure. Replace with MTF as soon as possible. Motor oil does not contain the proper additives for the transmission, and continued use can cause decreased shifting performance and lead to transmission damage.

Automatic Transmission Fluid NOTICE

Do not mix Honda ATF-Type 2.0 with other transmission fluids. Using a transmission fluid other than Honda ATF-Type 2.0 may adversely affect the operation and durability of your vehicle’s transmission and damage the transmission. Any damage caused by using a transmission fluid that is not equivalent to Honda ATF-Type 2.0 is not covered by Honda’s new vehicle limited warranty.

Why It’s Important To Keep Your Honda Accord Transmission Fluids At Their Correct Levels

As any car owner knows, regularly maintaining your vehicle is crucial to keep it running smoothly and prevent potential breakdowns. One aspect of maintenance that is often overlooked is checking fluid levels, including transmission fluid. Maintaining the proper transmission fluid level is important for ensuring the smooth operation of your vehicle’s transmission system. It helps to lubricate and cool the system, preventing damage and potential overheating.

Low transmission fluid can also lead to leaks, causing further issues in the long run. Neglecting to check and maintain your transmission fluid can ultimately result in costly repairs or even necessitate a full replacement of the transmission system. As a responsible car owner, it’s important to regularly check your Honda Accord’s transmission fluid levels and top off as necessary. Your wallet (and your car) will thank you in the long run.

How To Check And Change The Honda Accord Transmission Fluid

Transmission is crucial to your Honda Accord, so ensuring the fluid stays at proper levels is important. Fortunately, checking and changing the fluid is a simple process. First, locate the dipstick near the back of the engine and remove it. Wipe off any excess fluid before re-inserting the dipstick and pulling it out again to check the level. If it’s low, use a funnel to carefully pour in more transmission fluid until it reaches the “Full” mark on the dipstick. Changing your transmission fluid every 50,000 miles is recommended to ensure smooth operation and prolong the life of your vehicle’s transmission. Refer to your owner’s manual for specific instructions or ask a trusted mechanic for any questions.

How Much Transmission Fluid Does A Honda Accord Take

Honda Accord automatic transmission requires 8.8 quarts of HCF-2 or Honda ATF when changing the fluid.
