The Ford F-150 pickup has been America’s best-selling vehicle for the last 40 years. It is one of the most iconic and recognizable vehicles in automotive history, but how does it stack up against its competition?
The Ford 2022 F-150 offers six different powertrains, including a hybrid for the first time. It also has three cab configurations and both short and long bed lengths. In addition, this pickup will be able to haul up to 14,000 pounds, depending on the model or configuration chosen.
It’s been a long time since Ford has had an F-150 pickup truck that could go head to head with the best in class, but the 2021 model is finally ready. The latest iteration of America’s favorite pickup truck comes in three different flavors: XL, XLT, Raptor, and Lariat.
All have nicely outfitted cabins, quick acceleration from hybrid models (which also come standard with lane keep assist), and some novel productivity features like 360-degree camera views and a hands-free tailgate. But they’re not without their flaws; ride quality isn’t as smooth as its key rival, adding hybrid powertrain comes at a cost (gas mileage), fuel economy could be better (though it’s still competitive).
The 2022 Ford F-150 is available with a range of engines; from 310 hp up to 450 hp, and a hybrid powertrain and diesel engine.
Ford touts that the new 400-hp hybrid powertrain—comprised of a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6, 35 kW electric motor, and 10-speed automatic transmission—will offer up to 700 miles of driving range per tank and can also power an onboard generator for keeping the lights on in job sites or during outages.
The Ford F-150 offers a wide range of drive systems to meet the needs of a variety of buyers. A rear-wheel four-door 4×4 pickup, for example, can accelerate to 60 miles per hour in just 5.4 seconds using any one of the powertrains available. Agile handling and a compliant ride are among the many pluses offered by high spec models such as the King Ranch edition with its variable-assist steering system, which sharpens responses at low speeds and grants an even better feel on turns or navigating through busy city traffic during your travels abroad.
Ford F-150’s Tremor model is the most offroad-capable and likely to come with 33-inch all-terrain tires, upgraded suspension, a locking rear differential, and a four-wheel-drive transfer case. In addition, there are rumors of an electric all-electric F-150 coming soon, but Ford has yet to announce much about it.
