Chevy Equinox is an off-road vehicle of “K2” class with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The third generation of the model debuted in the United States on September 22, 2016, and the world premiere took place in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The exterior of the Equinox crossover is designed in the corporate style of the Chevrolet company for all of its latest models. The massive front end is characterized by a large radiator grille with a chrome surround that connects the narrow headlights to the LED running lights. The faceted profile of the car is distinguished by a sloping roof with V-shaped rear pillars. Unlike its predecessor, the acute-angled geometry of the rear of the updated SUV has horizontal lights with LED filling, a wide chrome belt separating the protective plastic from painted parts and square exhaust pipes with a shiny finish.
Equinox 3 has reduced its size decently. Its length has decreased by 118 mm and now is 4652 mm, the height has decreased by 23 mm – now 1661 mm, the width has remained practically unchanged – 1843 mm (+1), but the wheelbase has become shorter by as much as 132 mm and now reaches 2725 mm.
At the same time, the overall structure has become 180 kg lighter. As for the useful roominess, the volume of the luggage compartment has been reduced from 892 to 846 liters (1798 liters with the backs of the rear sofas folded out).
The completely redesigned interior of the Chevrolet Equinox is similar to the interior of the Malibu sedan. High-quality assembly and materials along with good ergonomics and comfortable seats provided the car with a good level of comfort. Glossy decorative elements and high-quality leather inlays add solidity. Behind the multifunctional three-spoke steering wheel is a bright blue instrument cluster.
The center console has got a 7-inch (optionally 8-inch) touchscreen of the MyLink infotainment system, which supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and has OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi. The rich equipment of the SUV can include such modern systems as automatic braking, lane tracking assistant, frontal collision warning and more.
The Chevrolet Equinox is based on the D2XX / D2UX chassis, which includes MacPherson independent front struts and a multi-link rear end (previously there was a twist-beam). The basic version is equipped with front-wheel drive, and an all-wheel-drive version is available for an additional fee.
The Chevrolet Equinox is powered by one of two 1.5- and 2.0-liter petrol engines producing 173 hp. (275 Nm) and 256 hp. (353 Nm), respectively, as well as a 137-strong (320 Nm) diesel unit with a working volume of 1.6 liters. Paired with a two-liter unit, a 9-speed “automatic” works, for the rest, automatic transmission with six steps is offered.
