If you’re the proud owner of a Mazda 3, then you know that you’ve got a great car. But like all cars, your Mazda 3 needs regular maintenance in order to perform its best. One of the most important aspects of vehicle maintenance is changing the engine oil on a regular basis. So, what’s the best engine oil for Mazda 3?

The oil replacement period can be selected from the flexible setting or fixed setting, or it can be set to non-display. The flexible setting is available only in the United States and Puerto Rico.

Once engine oil flexible maintenance is selected, the vehicle calculates the remaining oil life based on the engine operating conditions. The vehicle lets you know when an oil change is due by illuminating the wrench indicator light in the instrument cluster.

All moving points of the body, such as door and hood hinges and locks, should be lubricated each time the engine oil is changed. Use a nonfreezing lubricant on locks during cold weather. Make sure the hood’s secondary latch keeps the hood from opening when the primary latch is released.

The first-generation Mazda 3 appeared in 2003 and became one of the most popular models of the Japanese manufacturer. In November 2018, a completely new, fourth generation, debuted on the catwalks of the international auto show in Los Angeles.

It received a new platform with a different suspension architecture, an innovative line of powertrains, a classic set of gearboxes, a stylish interior with a high level of equipment, and a redesigned exterior. As before, the design is made in the corporate style of Kodo. However, its more adult variation under the motto “Less is more” is used here, which can be interpreted as “less is more”.

Indeed, the car has received a calmer silhouette with smoother edges. The headlights have become noticeably narrower and visually adjoin the enlarged radiator grille. It has a more rounded shape and a mesh design with many small cells. New brake lights with round sections can be seen aft, and two exhaust pipes on the rear bumper.

How Much Oil Does a Mazda3 Take?

The 2021 Mazda 3 with the 2.5L 4-cyl Turbo engine takes 5.1 quarts (with filter) of 5W-30 synthetic oil. The Mazda 3 with a 2.0L 4-cyl engine takes 4.4 quarts (with filter) of 0W-20 synthetic oil. A new oil filter and a crush washer are required.

MAZDA SUPRA 0W20 engine oil was developed by TOTAL in cooperation with the car manufacturer, especially for Skyactiv gasoline engines. It differs from conventional oils by its high fluidity, therefore providing lower fuel consumption and facilitating cold engine start in freezing weather. MAZDA SUPRA 0W20 oil has protective properties and energy efficiency level of API SN and ILSAC GF-5 according to the international classification. The automaker recommends this oil for gasoline Mazda models 2 (DE, DJ), 3 (except MPS) and 6 (except MPS).

For Mazda 2, 3, and 6 models with gasoline and diesel engines, except for cars with a particulate filter (DPF), was designed the engine oil MAZDA ULTRA 5W30, having ACEA A5/B5 and API SL/CF qualities. It guarantees reliable engine protection against wear and harmful deposits even in hard conditions, such as sport driving, city driving in the start-stop mode and cold starting. This oil’s resistance to oxidation maintains its effectiveness throughout the interval between replacements. MAZDA ULTRA 5W30 is recommended by the automaker for the Mazda 3 MPS and 6 MPS with a 2.3 Turbo engine.

MAZDA ULTRA DPF 5W30 engine oil is designed for diesel automobiles equipped with diesel particulate filters (DPF), which require oils of Low SAPS category with reduced content of sulfated ash, phosphorus, and sulfur. It guarantees the effective operation of the aftertreatment systems and prevents premature failure. The level of antiwear and energy-saving properties of MAZDA ULTRA DPF 5W30 oil meets the ACEA C2 standard.

Recently purchased 2 different Mazda vehicles, 2021 CX-5 and a used 2020 Mazda 3. Noticing when started cold both vehicles have about 30 to 40 seconds of “noisy engine” and then it quiets. Obviously the oil is getting distributed at first. This is more noticeable now than on any other vehicles I’ve owned. My question is should I use the 0w-20 or 5w-30 oil with my oil change? I’m thinking the 0w would be best but I usually use Mobil 1 synthetic. I don’t want to make that noisy start up any longer or worse. I live in Florida with no freezing temps if that matters. Thank you!
