When it comes time to change your engine oil, choosing the best type for your vehicle is important. If you have a Kia Sorento, it’s crucial to use the right motor oil to protect your engine and keep it running smoothly. In this article, we will discuss the best engine oils for Kia Sorentos and provide tips on choosing the right one.

2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 Kia Sorento Engine Oil Capacity

Engine Oil capacity (liters) with filter Oil type (Grade and Viscosity)
3.5 l Sigma (σ) engine 4.4 API SH 10W-30
2.5 l diesel engine 8.2 API CF-4 10W-30
3.3 l Lambda (λ) engine 5.2 API SJ / SL 10W-30

2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 Kia Sorento Engine Oil Capacity

Engine Oil capacity (liters) with filter Oil type (Grade and Viscosity)
2.4 l Theta (ϴ) Petrol Engine 4.6 ACEA A3 / A5 0W-40, 5W-30, 5W-40
2.0 l, 2.2 l Diesel Engine 6.7 ACEA C3 5W-30

2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 Kia Sorento Engine Oil Capacity

2020 2021 2022 Kia Sorento Engine Oil Capacity

Engine Oil capacity (with filter) Oil type (Grade and Viscosity)
1.6L 4-cyl Engine Turbo 4.8 liters (5.1 quarts) 0W-20
2.5L 4-cyl Engine 5.8 liters (6.1 quarts) 0W-20
2.5L 4-cyl Engine Turbo 5.8 liters (6.1 quarts) 0W-30
3.3L 6-cyl Engine 6.5 liters (6.9 quarts) 5W-30, 10W-30

How Much Oil Does a Kia Sorento Take?

The 2021 KIA Sorento with the 2.5L 4-cyl Turbo engine takes 6.1 quarts (with filter) of 0W-30 synthetic oil. The KIA Sorento with a 3.3L 6-cyl engine takes 6.9 quarts (with filter) of 5W-30 synthetic oil. A new oil filter and a crush washer are required.

Engine oil viscosity (thickness) has an effect on fuel economy and cold weather operating (engine start and engine oil flowability). Lower viscosity engine oils can provide better fuel economy and cold-weather performance. However, higher viscosity engine oils are required for satisfactory lubrication in hot weather.

Using oils of any viscosity other than those recommended could result in engine damage. When choosing an oil, consider the range of temperature your vehicle will be operated in before the next oil change. Proceed to select the recommended oil viscosity from the chart.

When choosing an engine oil for your Kia Sorento, it’s important to consider the climate you live in. If you live in a hot climate, it’s best to use an oil that has a higher viscosity rating. This will help protect your engine from overheating. In colder climates, a lower viscosity oil is typically recommended.

  1. Your numbers for the 2021 Kia Sorento are WRONG! For 2021 models, Kia does not use a 6-cyl engine, but instead Kia uses a 2.5L 4-Cyl engine in its 2021 models.
