The 2022 Cadillac XT6 is a three-row midsize luxury SUV. In between the smaller XT5 and the larger truck-based Escalade, the XT6 sits in Cadillac’s SUV range. It takes on other middle-class luxury crossovers such as the Acura MDX, Audi Q7, and Lincoln Aviator.
For the 2022 model year, Cadillac raised the bar on its Luxury grade. It comes standard with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning, as well as all of the safety and driver assistance technologies that come standard on competing vehicles. Meanwhile, the XT6’s top Sport edition adds improved Brembo brakes with red calipers to complement its already stunning appearance.
Overall, the XT6’s appearance, technology, and pleasant cabin intrigue us, but there are a few flaws that keep it from ranking at the top of our three-row luxury SUV rankings. Check out our in-depth XT6 Expert Score to discover more.
For 2022, Cadillac’s mid-size SUV gets only minor modifications. The Sports model now comes with Brembo brakes and red-painted calipers, and Platinum-package models now have a Modena leather steering wheel rather than the Turin leather wheel last year. A new optional 21-inch wheel design is available, as well as exterior mirrors that fold away when opened.
In our tests, the Sport’s chassis modifications did not give a significant boost in performance, so we’d stick with the Premium Luxury grade. To that add the Comfort and Air Quality package (heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and an air ionizer), as well as second-row captain’s chairs, in-dash navigation, and a 14-speaker Bose premium radio system.
For 2022, buyers of the XT6 can choose between a 237-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a 310-hp V-6 engine. Both are paired with a nine-speed automatic and come as front or all-wheel drive. The XT6 lineup is composed of three trim levels: Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport, with the first two being more about comfort and the latter offering performance-enhancing features such as torque-vectoring rear differential and retuned steering.
The top-of-the-range XT6 comes standard with a Platinum package, which adds in all of the features. The XT6 looks great, no matter the trim. Standard twenty-inch wheels are a good start, but you can upgrade to 21s on the Sport model. Despite its size, the XT6 has a pleasant look. No one will mistake this three-row crossover for the nimble CT5-V sedan. “No one will mistake it for an agile CT5 V sedan.”
