The Acura MDX is a midsize three-row SUV produced by the Japanese automaker. The newest version of the MDX, which was redesigned for 2022, offers a slimmer exterior appearance, more legroom in all three rows, and numerous tech and interior upgrades. The luxury quotient has also been increased in the MDX, with added high-end materials such as open-pore wood, stainless steel speaker covers, and various available upholstery choices inside.
The 2022 Acura MDX is another example of this. The previous MDX generations offered excellent value for the money, which can’t always be said of rivals such as the Audi Q7 or Mercedes-Benz GLE. The 2022 Acura MDX maintains a strong focus on value, with numerous appealing features even on its most affordable trim level. All-wheel drive is again available on the MDX. Aside from improving traction in snowy or icy conditions, it may help make corners seem more agile on dry pavement when used together.
There’s a lot of new technology on offer, but not all of it is enhanced. We despised the previous MDX’s two-screen infotainment system, and while there is only one screen now, the touchpad interface can be challenging to use. However, this is just one difficulty for a vehicle with a lot going for it. With improvements to ride quality, interior space, and overall design, as well as a high-horsepower Type S model due within the next year or so, the 2022 Acura MDX is once again one of the more compelling luxury SUVs options. For 2022, Acura has skipped the 2021 model year on the MDX. The newest SUV is based on the same styling and technological architecture as the updated RDX and TLX models.
We’re most interested in the Acura Type S for its performance goals, but it won’t be available until late 2021. For buyers searching for a well-equipped luxury crossover that lacks sporty flair, we recommend the Technology trim with amenities such as leather upholstery with contrast stitching, adjustable interior ambient lighting, an ELS Studio stereo system with 12 speakers, and low-speed front and rear automated emergency braking.
The base model MDX delivers 19 mpg in the city and 26 miles per gallon on the highway. The highway rating is reduced by 1 mpg when you choose all-wheel drive.
