Best Spark Plugs for Chevrolet Traverse

The spark plug is a little metal cylinder that fits in the gap between the flywheel and the crankshaft. It receives a spark from an electronic ignition system or the distributor cap and rotor in modern cars, which sits on top of the engine’s cylinder head.

Although most engines can continue to operate effectively for a few thousand miles after the replacement of their spark plug, it’s advisable to do so sooner rather than later. What do spark plugs do?

Each cylinder head has a spark plug above it that “fires” to ignite the compressed fuel and air mixture in the chamber. The spark does not touch the mixture; rather, an electrical spark travels over a tiny gap (usually about a millimeter) to begin combustion. The piston is driven down by the power of this mini-explosion.

Next, the spark plugs repeat this procedure over and over again – once for each time the piston rises and falls. Typically, a car has one spark plug per cylinder, but two may be present in certain engines. Your Chevrolet will not start or continue to run if you forget to replace your spark plugs.

Do spark plugs wear out?

The conditions inside a motor are highly harsh. Despite the fact that modern engines are designed and constructed to minimize friction among moving components, friction – and the heat that goes with it – is unavoidable as cylinders turn. Every minute, sparks in a typical engine fire 1000 times or more. There is definitely a problem with wear and tear.

A tiny amount of material is left after each combustion, regardless of how efficient an engine is. Over time, deposits accumulate on the spark plugs, causing slow performance and decreased gas mileage. The distance a spark has to travel to ignite the fuel/air mixture grows longer as the spark plug ages owing to the heat, debris, and ordinary wear and tear.

It’s also crucial to have your spark plugs changed (and done) at the manufacturer’s recommended interval. Superior materials may have extended the average spark plug life, but they won’t go on forever.
