Subaru Forester (Subaru Forester) – all-wheel-drive crossover class “K2”. Fifth-generation of the model. The car premiered at the New York Auto Show on March 28, 2018.

The fifth generation of the “forester” is marked by conservative changes in external design and significant technical modernization. The car is now built on the modular SGP (Subaru Global Platform) platform, resulting in an increase in overall dimensions: now the car has 4625 mm in length (plus 15 mm), 1815 mm in width (plus 20 mm) and 1730 mm in height (minus 5 mm). The wheelbase has increased by 30 mm (2670 mm).

The fifth-generation can be identified by a modified false radiator grille, a front bumper with pronounced inserts for foglights and a developed unpainted part, a shallow lower glazing line (formerly a straight line), a redrawn rear bumper with a light protective strip in the color of the inserts in the front and on the moldings.

The increase in overall dimensions affected the space in the cabin: the maximum distance between the backs of the front and rear seats is now 1001 mm (which is 36 mm more than before), and an increase in head and shoulder space is also announced. The opening angle of the tailgate is also increased. As for the trunk, its maximum size (with the backs folded, the proportion is 60:40) is now 2155 liters (an increase of 40 liters), the width of the trunk lid is 1300 mm (before – 1166 mm). In addition to the increase in size, the use of the new platform helped to improve the noise insulation of the cabin.

The Subaru Forester presented in the US is equipped with a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated boxer engine, which is the base for this market, which has been modernized. Now it uses direct injection, increased compression ratio, and a Start / Stop system. The engine output was 185 liters. sec., torque – 239 Nm; the manufacturer’s declared consumption when driving on the highway – 7.1 liters per “hundred”.

The motor is paired with the Lineartronic wedge-chain variator, which in manual mode (if such is provided by the equipment) simulates 7 gears that can be shifted using the paddle shifters. Already in the basic configuration, the operation of the engine and transmission can be adjusted using the SI-DRIVE system (the Intelligent and Sport modes are responsible for more economical and sporty settings). Also in the “base” – the all-wheel-drive system Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and 220 mm ground clearance.

All-wheel drive in more expensive trim levels can be equipped with an electronic X-Mode system with two off-road modes: Snow / Dirt and Deep Snow / Mud. But the basic one is the Active Torque Vectoring system, which breaks the inner wheel relative to the turn for better controllability of the car.

There are also turbocharged gasoline and diesel engines on European markets.

Equipping the car with a complex of EyeSight assistants (adaptive cruise control, automatic braking, lane-keeping system, etc.) is basic, it is possible to order a blind-spot tracking system and a warning about driving when reversing, automatic braking when reversing. And for the first time, the DriverFocus system is able to recognize the driver’s fatigue and the fact that he is distracted from driving. To do this, the system scans the facial expressions of the driver’s face.
