Several premium automakers now offer sloping-roof variants of traditional SUVs, which is a testament to the popularity of the fastback, coupe-style form of SUV. The BMW X6 was the first to popularize the style, and it’s now in its third generation. These SUVs are distinct because they attempt to appear more like sport coupes while retaining most of the capabilities of standard SUVs. They’re also less practical than regular SUVs owing to a smaller cargo capacity, reduced rear headroom, and decreased rear visibility.

In terms of spark-plug temperature, ignition timing is crucial. The ground strap is the best location to look for this information. The ground strap’s tip will initially turn blue, then white (annealing), as the temperature rises. Near halfway down the length of the ground strap, an ideal ignition-timing temperature range for a specified spark plug will form a light blue ring around it.

The ground strap should display no coloration if the engine is working properly. If the ground electrode begins to turn blue and green, or if the tip starts to melt, the timing is excessively advanced. Of course, if you’re tuning at a dragstrip, these situations will have prompted red flags about missing e.t. or trap speed.

Blisters on the insulator tip, melted electrodes, or white deposits are all indications of a hot running spark plug. Engine overheating is one cause, as is an incorrect spark plug heat range, a loose spark plug, and an incorrect ignition timing or insufficient air/fuel mixture.
